The National Awards Committee has been re-established.
President Ibrahim Mohamed Solih reinstated the committee on Thursday, after it’s previous term ended.
The President reappointed Aneesa Ahmed as the chairperson of the committee.
She is a recipient of the Order of the Distinguished Rule of Izzuddin (ODRI) and previously served as chairperson as well.
Other members appointed to the committee are:
- Mohamed Ismail Fulhu
- Ibrahim Hussain Manik
- Hafeeza Ibrahim
- Ahmed Shujau.
Further, Ibrahim Ismail Ali, Hussain Amir; a recipient of the Order of the Dignified Rule of the Muleege Dynasty (ODRMD), Secretary of Corporate Services at the President’s Office Raheema Adam and Aminath Naaz are some of the members who are already on the committee.
The committee is mandated to include the vetting and selection of recipients for the National Award for Public Service. The National Award for Public Service mirrors the prestigious National Award of Honor and is presented to those who have served for the nation for over 35 years and this is the first time it is being conferred.
The ‘National Award for Public Service’ recognizes the different achievements of nominees and the quality of their work as well as contributions towards the development of their respective fields will be taken into consideration. Similar to the “National Award of Honor”, it also recognizes the individual achievements of nominees.
National Awards are conferred annually and carries the purpose of recognizing and encouraging the efforts of individuals and organizations that contribute to the development of th enation and the society’s benefit.
