A memorandum of understanding have been signed between Kulhudhuffushi City Council and the Ministry of Environment Climate Change and Technology to install an air monitoring sensor in the city.
The MOU was signed in a special event held this Sunday.
Kulhudhuffushi City Council Mayor, Mohamed Athif and council members along with Environmental Outreach Officer of the Ministry Fathimath Shamra, Chemicals Management Officer Fathimath Nashwa and Project Assistant Ibrahim Fauzaan Fathuhulla took part in the MOU signing event.
Mayor Athif said that this sensor will be helpful in detecting any changes that occur in the air around Kulhudhuffushi. He stated that this will help detect the pollution of air due to gases released into the environment.
Athif highlighted that this sensor will be helpful in maintaining the environment as safe as it can be for the islanders.
The Ministry assures that the data will be made public and available to view on the Air Visual App and website, after a data verification period of three days.
This is part of Ministry of Environment's project to install air sensors in some of the islands, in order to find out the air quality index.
