After a successful surgery, President Ibrahim Mohamed Solih has resumed his official duties and responsibilities.
President Solih and First Lady Fazna Ahmed departed to Singapore earlier this week.
The president revealed that he underwent surgery on his thyroid on Friday morning following advice from his doctors. With this, the presidential responsibilities and power were temporarily transferred to Vice President Faisal Naseem.
VP Naseem took oath early Friday, as stipulated in Article 126 of the Maldives Constitution. His oath was administered by Chief Justice Ahmed Muthasim Adnan.
In a Twitter post following his successful surgery, the president wrote that he is currently “recuperating” and in “good spirits”.
President Solih resumed his official duties at 09:30am on Friday, in accordance with Article 123 (a) of the Constitution, after notifying the Speaker of the People’s Majlis and Former President Mohamed Nasheed, in writing.
The president is mandated to notify the parliament Speaker if he is unable to perform his duties as president and transfer presidential power to the vice president, under Article 123 (a) of the constitution.
