The Fédération Internationale de Natation (FINA) is committed to assist and provide training opportunities for Maldivian athletes.

This was revealed by the President of FINA, Husain Al-Musallam during a call on Vice President Faisal Naseem on Thursday.

During the meeting, VP Naseem highlighted that this was the first official visit to Maldives by the FINA President and went on to discuss the possibilities of facilitating development of swimming infrastructure and training opportunities for local athletes.

Describing Maldives as an ideal destination to promote water sports, the FINA President shed light on the importance of hosting countrywide swimming programmes and expressed interest to develop swimming as well as other aquatic activities in the Maldives.

He also expressed interest to provide technical knowledge and financial assistance to Maldivian athletes.

Further, VP Naseem and Al-Musallam explored possibilities for Maldives to expand sports tourism and host international open water sporting events.

The meeting concluded with VP Naseem acknowledging FINA’s assistance towards the government of Maldives in developing the sector of water sports.

FINA manages international competitions and leads the development of aquatic events including swimming, water polo, diving, artistic swimming, high diving as well as open water swimming.
