Tourism and restaurant industry consultant George Corbin has paid a courtesy call on President Ibrahim Mohamed Solih.
The meeting was held at the President’s Office on Thursday.
President Solih welcomed Corbin to Maldives and expressed his gratitude for Corbin’s participation in the events held to mark the 50th anniversary of the Maldives’ tourism industry.
The pair engaged in discussions regarding ways to strengthen the Maldives’ tourism sector as well as the incumbent administration’s commitment to develop the industry.
Highlighting the recent introduction of homestay tourism in the Maldives, the president also spoke regarding strengthening the domestic transportation network.
Corbin described the tourism sector of Maldives’ progress as “superb” and added that the future looks bright, even if there is still room for progress.
Corbin also shed light on the importance of attracting more middle-class travelers.
Further, he also described the establishment of new domestic airports as a positive development.
The pair also engaged in discussions regarding ways to ease travel for tourists from distant markets such as the United States.
The call concluded with Corbin expressing gratitude for the “touching” hospitality extended to him.
The tourism and restaurant industry consultant greatly contributed to the introduction of tourism to the Maldives with his first visit to the Maldives in 1972 as an Italy-based diving tour operator.
