President Ibrahim Mohamed Solih has been briefed on the challenges and concerns facing the island community of Kunburudhoo in Alif Dhaal atoll.
The president held a meeting with the island council on Thursday, where he reaffirmed his commitment to continue listening to the concerns and needs of the people.
The meeting saw councilors sharing the most pertinent needs and concerns of the community, particularly the challenges they face due to scarcity of land.
With this, the president was presented with an assessment report on the current situation on the island and the councilors highlighted the issues presented due to scarcity of land for housing, economic activities, and municipal services.
Further, the councilors also spoke regarding the expansion of the island’s harbor as well as requirements to facilitate switching to single-session schooling.
Discussions also revolved around upgrading healthcare services and coastal protection.
Listening to these concerns, the president affirmed his commitment to continue listening to the people and providing swift solutions.
As such, he noted that the government will continue to engage in conversation with island communities and discuss development and progress to islands.
The councilors were also assured that the incumbent administration would find amicable solutions for their concerns.
