Another local has succumbed to complications of Covid-19.
The Health Protection Agency (HPA) identified the deceased as a 72-year-old Maldivian man.
Doctors at the Hulhumalé Medical Facility pronounced him dead at around 02:14pm on Saturday.
With this, the country’s Covid-19 death toll has been pushed to 288.
This comes two days after the last victim was reported; an 80-year-old Maldivian man who was pronounced the 287th Covid-19 victim so far. He was admitted at the Gnaviyani Atoll Hospital before being pronounced dead by doctors at around 11:42 am on Thursday.
The public health authority did not reveal the details of the 286th Covid-19 victim.
This is the 12th Covid-19 fatality reported so far in February.
The total number of Covid-19 fatalities reported this year has been pushed to 26; 14 victims were confirmed in January.
The island nation reported the highest number of deaths in a single month since the pandemic began, during May 2021, when a total of 88 deaths were confirmed. June saw 50 Covid-19 fatalities, followed by 10 in July. Five Covid-19 fatalities were confirmed in August and in September. 12 Covid-19 fatalities were reported in October followed by seven in November. December also saw 12 Covid-19 fatalities.
212 Covid-19 victims were reported last year.
