Turkey's Foreign Minister arrives in the Maldives on official visit

Mevlüt Çavuşoğlu, the Minister of Foreign Affairs of the Republic of Türkiye has arrived in the Maldives on an official visit.

Minister of Foreign Affairs and President of the 76th Session of the United Nations General Assembly (UNGA), Abdulla Shahid received his Turkish counterpart at the Velana International Airport (VIA) on Friday evening. The Maldives foreign minister was joined by senior officials of the ministry, to welcome the Foreign Minister of Turkey.

The Ministry of Foreign Affairs revealed that the Foreign Minister of Turkey will conclude his visit on January 30.

The visit comes upon the invitation of the Minister of Foreign Affairs of Maldives and President of the 76th Session of the United Nations General Assembly (UNGA), Abdulla Shahid.

The visit will see the Turkish minister paying a courtesy call on the Maldivian president, Ibrahim Mohamed Solih as well as Speaker of Parliament and Former President Mohamed Nasheed.

Official talks will also be held with his counterpart, FM Shahid.

Further, the visit will also see the signing of a number of key agreements between the two countries.

This is the first time a foreign minister of Turkey will be visiting the Maldives.

Appointed foreign minister of Turkey during November 2015, Çavuşoğlu also filled the ministerial position between August 2014 and August 2015.
