Another Maldivian man has succumbed to complications of Covid-19.

The Health Protection Agency (HPA) reported the latest Covid-19 fatality after sundown on Thursday.

The deceased has been identified as an 84-year-old Maldivian man who was being treated at the Hulhumalé Medical Facility before being pronounced dead by doctors at 4:53pm on Thursday.

This has pushed the Maldives Covid-19 death toll to 274 and comes less than 24 hours after the last fatality was reported.

As such, the 10th death linked to coronavirus reported this year was famous local businessman ‘Sentu’ Adam Manik who died early Thursday while receiving treatment on ventilator support at the same facility.

12 Covid-19 fatalities have been reported so far this year.

The island nation reported the highest number of deaths in a single month since the pandemic began, during May 2021, when a total of 88 deaths were confirmed. June saw 50 Covid-19 fatalities, followed by 10 in July. Five Covid-19 fatalities were confirmed in August and in September. 12 Covid-19 fatalities were reported in October followed by seven in November. December also saw 12 Covid-19 fatalities.

212 Covid-19 victims were reported last year.
