Maldives has confirmed the 10th Covid-19 fatality of the year.

The Health Protection Agency (HPA) detected two Covid-19 fatalities in the past 24 hours.

As such, the 271st Covid-19 victim was confirmed following the passing of an 80-year-old man who was admitted at Gnaviyani Covid Management Facility, on Monday evening.

Doctors pronounced the local man dead at 4:55pm on Monday.

The second victim was identified as a 50-year-old woman who was pronounced dead by doctors at the health center of Dhangethi island in Alif Dhaal atoll at 12:24am on Wednesday.

This has pushed the Maldives Covid-19 death toll to 272 and comes just a few days after the confirmation of the last victim; a 42-year-old local woman who was being treated in the Intensive Care Unit of Hulhumalé Medical Facility before succumbing to complications of the virus early Sunday.

The island nation reported the highest number of deaths in a single month since the pandemic began, during May 2021, when a total of 88 deaths were confirmed. 50 deaths were confirmed in June last year while 10 deaths were reported in July. In August, five Covid-19 patients succumbed to the virus, September also saw five Covid-19 fatalities. 12 Covid-19 fatalities were reported in October followed by seven in November. December also saw 12 Covid-19 fatalities.

212 Covid-19 victims were reported last year.
