President Ibrahim Mohamed Solih has pledged to help resolve the issues facing Meyna School in Holhudhoo island of Noonu atoll, one of the oldest schools in the Maldives.

During a meeting with the community leaders and residents of the island on Wednesday, as part of a brief two-day tour of five islands in the atoll, the president listened to the community’s concerns regarding challenges in running the school on multiple campuses.

The president also discussed the issue extensively with the members of the island council and Women’s Development Committee (WDC) in a separate meeting, where the councilors raised other concerns linked to housing, healthcare, sports and the requirement of a more spacious mosque.

President Solih was briefed on the issues and hindrances facing WDC members due to the lack of dedicated office space.

Listening to these concerns, the president assured to work with the relevant authorities to address the concerns and issues facing the island and proposed dialogue to determine the best possible use for Holhumeedhoo Island, an uninhabited island under the Holhudhoo Council’s jurisdiction.

During the meeting with the residential community, the president was briefed on issues such as the need for housing and sporting facilities.

President Solih shared with them, the development plans for the island.

As part of the trip, the president also met with the faculty and parents of students at Meyna School to discuss ways to ease difficulties.

The newly restored and upgraded football grounds were also inaugurated on Wednesday.

The community leaders and residents were joined by the president to observe a friendly match between a veteran’s team from Malé and a team from Holhudhoo Island.

The president also toured the island’s health center and inspected the progress of the new extension building.

Holhudhoo was the president’s last trip as part of his two-day tour of five islands of Noonu atoll, which concluded on Wednesday evening. The president was accompanied by a delegation of Cabinet Ministers and high-level government officials.
