The late MP for Komandoo constituency, Hussain Waheed was a man of courage and had productive guidance in political matters, says President Ibrahim Mohamed Solih.
The president signed the book of condolences the People’s Majlis has opened for the late MP, on Wednesday.
MP Waheed succumbed to cancer on December 13.
Penning his message, the president described MP Waheed as a dear friend and colleague, who was filled with joy and kindness ever since the first day the president met him.
The late MP was a close associate with a “courageous” mindset and had a lot of productive counseling to give, said the president, who shed light on the invaluable services he provided in his contributions to politics.
The Sh. Foakaidhoo native, 53, had been receiving treatment for cancer for an extensive period of time, from Dubai as well. He returned to Maldives during March 2021 and continued his treatment.
The late MP was unable to attend parliament sittings since then. He served in multiple parliamentary committees including the Public Accounts Committee, Committee on Member’s Privileges and Ethics, the Budget Committee and the Joint-Committee of Public Accounts Committee and Committee on Decentralization.
He had served as a parliamentarian during the 17th parliament as well, during former President and current Speaker Mohamed Nasheed’s presidency.
Waheed was also a prominent businessman, he is survived by his spouse and three children; two daughters and a son.
