The eighth amendment to the Land Act was ratified on Monday.
President Ibrahim Mohamed Solih ratified the amendment to the act (Act No. 1/2002) with which it has been publicized in the government gazette.
The amendment, ratified on Monday comes into immediate effect and was passed by the People’s Majlis at its 44th sitting of the third session of 2021 on November 29.
With the amendment, the transfer of lands allocated for various uses to government ministries and state bodies, are required to be in compliance with the Decentralization Act.
Further, the amendment highlights that the land must be handed over in conventionality with the guidelines established for land distribution.
Appropriate guidelines and procedures are also required to be publicized in the government gazette six months after the amended bill comes into effect.
