President Ibrahim Mohamed Solih has concluded his brief visit to Gaafaru Island of Kaafu atoll to join the official celebrations to mark the 41st National Fishermen's Day.
The president departed to the island on Friday afternoon and was joined by Vice President Faisal Naseem and cabinet members as well as senior officials of the government, for the festivities.
The trip saw President Solih inaugurating the newly developed ice plant on the island on Friday.
He also toured the Fisheries Expo organized by the Ministry of Fisheries, Marine Resources, and Agriculture and attended the official event held to mark the 41st National Fishermen's Day where he delivered a speech.
VP Naseem also unveiled a monument built on the island during the trip.
Further, the president and vice president visited the police stationed in the island and engaged in discussions regarding development plans with Gaafaru councilors and officials from the Women’s Development Committee.
The country celebrates Fishermen’s Day every year on December 10.
