The country’s top court will be in recess until the first working day of January 2022; January 2.
The court went into recess after issuing the ruling in the money laundering conviction against Former President Abdulla Yameen on Tuesday.
Should a state of emergency be imposed under Article 253 of the Maldives constitution, Supreme Court will be required to end its recess.
During recess, trials will not proceed at the court unless under circumstances highlighted under the Judicature Act and constitution.
According to the regulations, courts will still accept cases and handle administrative tasks and the Supreme Court still has the authority to conclude deadline-driven cases and hold hearings to proceed with other cases in a timely manner, while in recess.
