Attorney General Ahmed Usham has confirmed that he spoke with the agent that Supreme Court Justice Dr. Azmiralda Zahir claims was sent by him, and that the conversation took place in early February together with a friend and the agent.
Usham said this while answering a question in the “Ahaa” programme. The question directed at Usham was whether he had exerted influence on the judicial system as claimed by former Supreme Court Justice Husnu Al Suood and some other judges, and whether such allegations were also directed at the Attorney General.
In response to the question, Attorney General Ahmed Usham said that he had not done anything to influence the Supreme Court judges. He added that former judge Husnu Al Suood is a political figure and would speak politically. However, due to the Attorney General's temperament of not responding to political statements, Usham said that people believe that things happened that way.
However, based on the messages sent by multiple people on behalf of Husnu Al Suood and the conversations between the president and Husnu Al Suood so far in President Dr. Mohamed Muizzu's administration, it was Suood who had influenced the judiciary.
Usham stated that there is an allegation from Supreme Court Justice Azmiralda, claiming that an agent was sent with a warning, a claim Usham has denied.
Usham questioned why, if such a serious allegation had been made against him and President Muizzu, it wasn't brought up during the two hearings of the case. He also pointed out that it has not been mentioned in the press releases being issued now and is only being discussed amidst an ongoing disciplinary investigation. As a result, Usham asserted that this allegation holds no truth.
While Usham denied sending an agent and called these false stories, Azmiralda has said that she was influenced regarding the case submitted to the Supreme Court to nullify the case where members would lose their seats.
Azmiralda's lawyer Ibrahim Shameel said that in connection with the case at the Supreme Court, a government official contacted the judge to exert influence through another person.
