Education Sector Research Group has shared the progress of its research with President Ibrahim Mohamed Solih.

On Tuesday, members of the group held a meeting with President Ibrahim Mohamed Solih, where they shared their research progress and noted that the proposal for their research has been approved, with which the process to collect data is currently underway.

Further adding that they have identified the research sample, the members revealed that interviews with focus groups are underway and that they are now compiling survey questionnaires for teachers.

This comes after the president shed light on the importance of conducting research into the education sector which would help identify the reasons behind a lack of interest in pursuing careers in the sector. He also stated that it will assist in reform efforts revolving around the improvement of the quality of education, capacity building in teachers, wage increments, and addressing issues of undue influence in schools.

With this being said, the president expressed confidence that the research group, compiled of six members who are experts in the fields of education policy and planning, human resources, sociology, training, and finance, will conduct a thorough study.

Vice President Faisal Naseem, who also joined the meeting, revealed that the study will contribute to the progress of the education sector by identifying pertinent issues outside of the main objectives of the study.

The meeting was also joined by Minister of Education Dr Aishath Ali, and the Special Advisor on Social Policy at the President’s Office, Dr Musthafa Luthufee.

This comes at a time President Solih had shed light on the need for academic research on issues in the education sector, while speaking at the ceremony to present awards and certificates to the top achievers of 2019.
