The Criminal Court has released five out of the seven suspects arrested in connection to a drug operation in Maldives capital Malé City.
The drug operation was conducted with the joint efforts from the Maldives Police Service (MPS) Drug Enforcement Department and the Drug Intelligence unit, on November 10 and stemmed from an intel report.
The suspects initially arrested were a 55-year-old man, a 33-year-old man, a 29-year-old man, a 22-year-old man, a 53-year-old woman, a 30-year-old woman and a 24-year-old woman.
Officers confiscated over 200g of heroin and a bottle of alcohol in the operation conducted in two residences of the capital.
When presented to the Criminal Court for their remand hearing, the 29-year-old and 33-year-old were remanded by 15 days. The remaining five were released from police custody.
The police institution’s Drug Enforcement Department is conducting further investigations into the case.
