Bank of Maldives has launched its 'BML Scholarship Fund'.

The initiative comes as the first of a series of 12 high-impact monthly community initiatives leading up to the country’s national bank’s 40th anniversary to be celebrated in November 2022.

In a press conference on Wednesday, the bank revealed that the first initiative announced on Wednesday will provide fully funded international scholarships for three students in the area of Banking and Finance every year.

Open to all, the fund carries the purpose of developing talented young Maldivians in the field.

Today, I am pleased to announce the launch of the BML scholarship fund. This fund will help Maldivian talent in the field of banking and finance with fully-funded scholarships for three students anywhere in the world. This initiative aims to re-investing the future of the country and will continue on as an annual event. More details about the application process will be published in our website soon. Today we share with you, the details of our first major initiative leading up to the 40th anniversary celebrations. I’m pleased to let you know that more plans driven by business, innovation, social and environmental needs are in the works and we’ll be announcing in due time every month”

Further speaking to press, the bank’s CEO, Tim Sawyer revealed that the bank looks forward to welcome ideas from the public to identify areas of investment that can benefit communities nationwide, as the bank intends to include important environmental initiatives such as a massive tree planting campaign to support discussions at the COP26 summit, ongoing in Glasgow, Scotland.

We’ll be very happy for initiative such as these to take place in a collaborative manner, it is a priority for us to include environment initiatives such as low-scale tree plantation planting campaigns to support the discussions of the COP26 summit.
