Bank of Maldives (BML) has begun depleting its funds for government public relations.
While the country’s national bank had previously been working on installing ATMs across the scatter of islands comprising the Maldives, efforts are now being made to present the installation of BML ATMs as an initiative of the current administration, crediting President Dr. Mohamed Muizzu for the work.
In this regard, under the guise of inaugurating ATMs that were initiated across islands during the previous term, government ministers and senior officials are traveling at the expense of Bank of Maldives to improve the government's public relations. On these trips, BML is chartering seaplanes for ministers to travel to islands to inaugurate the ATMs that have been installed.
Participating in these events are Minister of Economic Development and Trade Mohamed Saeed, who has mismanaged the economy in the current administration, Minister of Cities, Local Government and Public Works Adam Shareef Umar, who was appointed to bring the decentralized system under government control, and Mohamed Shareef, who was appointed by the government as CEO to take control of BML after holding a senior political position at the President's Office.
Earlier, ATMs installed by the country’s national bank across islands were inaugurated at events organized by island councils. However, since the current administration came to power, even when it doesn't coincide with an official trip, inauguration ceremonies for ATMs are being held with government officials traveling to islands on chartered flights funded by the bank.
