Nasheed departs on official trip to attend COP26 summit

Former President and Parliament Speaker Mohamed Nasheed has departed on his official trip to attend the 26th United Nations Climate Change Conference (COP26), slated for November to be held in Glasgow, Scotland.
The Majlis speaker departed from Velana International Airport (VIA) on Friday morning.
COP26 will begin on Sunday and leaders from over 100 countries are scheduled to participate. The summit will conclude on November 12.
COP26 is expected to be the largest event following the Paris Agreement in 2015 and will bring together parties to fast-track action towards the goals of the Paris Agreement and the UN Framework Convention on Climate Change.
