The government attaches high priority to the development of the education sector, says Vice President Faisal Naseem.
VP Naseem inaugurated the Mohamed Gasim Preschool in Hulhumalé on Sunday morning.
The development project of the school was funded by a private citizen.
Comprising of 10 classrooms, a hall and additional rooms for administrative purposes, the school was funded by Ali Firag and his family, in remembrance of his late father, Mohamed Gasim. VP Naseem thanked Ali Firag’s family for donating the school to the government.
The government is obligated to provide free universal preschool education with the application of the Education Act (24/2020) on August 10, 2021.
Taking the podium at the event, VP Naseem stated that the opening of the school coincides with an opportune time for the residents of Hulhumalé.
As such, he emphasized on the blessings of supporting the society and encouraged those who are blessed with fortune to give back to the community.
Stressing that while families have already begun moving into the social housing flats at the second phase of Hulhumalé City, VP Naseem noted that the suburbs do not have enough schools to accommodate the new families.
The vice president noted that the government attaches high priority to the development of the education sector and that most of the government funds are allocated for the sector.
With this being said, he said that the government is currently working on building two schools in Hulhumalé.
