Maldives has confirmed the 238th Covid-19 victim.
The Health Protection Agency (HPA) revealed that the latest coronavirus victim has been identified as an 80-year-old local man.
Doctors at the Hulhumalé Medical Facility pronounced the man dead at around 7:45am on Sunday.
This is the seventh Covid-19 victim to have been reported this ongoing month and comes just a few days after Maldives confirmed the latest Covid-19 fatalities. As such, an 81-year-old woman and an 84-year-old man succumbed to complications of the virus on October 12. The 237th fatality was confirmed on October 13, with the death of an 87-year-old man. All three victims were locals.
Maldives reported its first Covid-19 fatality in April 2020.
Of the 238 deaths linked to coronavirus reported in the Maldives so far, 188 have been reported so far this year.
The island nation reported the highest number of deaths in a single month since the pandemic began, during May 2021, when a total of 88 deaths were confirmed. 50 deaths were confirmed in June while 10 deaths were reported in July. In August, five Covid-19 patients succumbed to the virus. September also saw five deaths.
