President Ibrahim Mohamed Solih has been briefed on the issues and concerns facing the island community of Alif Dhaal atoll Omadhoo.
During a meeting held at the President’s Office on Thursday, the island councilors noted that this was the first opportunity granted for the council to meet with a president in its history.
Some of the issues discussed by the Omadhoo councilors include damage to the island’s harbor, soil erosion, delays in providing service despite the sewerage project having concluded an year ago, the requirement of upgrades to the sports facilities and health sector, as well as lack of space at the island’s school.
President Solih assured the island council that the issues will be taken up with the relevant authorities to accommodate the requests made by them and to adequately address them.
He further revealed the government’s plan to establish a new health center in the island, which will be included in the state budget for 2022. He noted that the issue of service delays in the sewerage project will be addressed some time next month.
