Non-Resident High Commissioner Extraordinary and Plenipotentiary of the Republic of Maldives to the Republic of Republic of South Africa Omar Abdul Razzak has presented his credentials to the President of South Africa, Matamela Cyril Ramaphosa.

During a ceremony held at the Sefako Makgatho Presidential Guesthouse on Wednesday, the Maldives High Commissioner presented his letter of credence to the South African President.

President of the 76th Session of the United Nations General Assembly (UNGA) and Maldives Minister of Foreign Affairs Abdulla Shahid congratulated High Commissioner Omar on the occasion and expressed confidence that the relations between both countries will be boosted during Omar’s tenure.

Expressing gratitude to the government of South Africa for the honor to present his credentials, Omar extended thanks to President Ibrahim Mohamed Solih for granting him the opportunity.

The meeting saw High Commissioner Omar expressing commitment to work in close collaboration with the government of South Africa, to strengthen the relationship between both countries with renewed focus.

Omar also wished every success, happiness, peace, prosperity and good health to the people of South Africa and expressed hope for the relationship between both countries to expand to new heights in the future.

South African President Ramaphosa expressed hope to work closely with the Maldives in further enhancing the bilateral relations between both countries.

The meeting was joined by Aishath Nihad from the High Commission of Maldives in Colombo, Sri Lanka.

Omar is scheduled to pay courtesy calls on the Minister of International Relations and Cooperation of South Africa Dr Naledi Pandor and other cabinet ministers during the visit.
