Nepal has been replaced by Maldives in the “Ooredoo SAFF Championship 2021” table after losing to India.
India beat Nepal 1 – 0 during Sunday night’s game held at the National Football Stadium.
Both teams showed a good performance into the beginning of the game, with Indian team captain forward Sunil Chhetri being granted an excellent opportunity to take the lead. He got a second chance to score in the 34th minute, to no avail.
While non of the teams were able to score in the first half, forward Manvir Singh attempted to score with a header in the 57th minute, which was blocked by Nepal’s goal keeper Kiran Kumar Limbu.
India took the lead 72 minutes in, with a score by Chhetri who excelled in the game.
India has moved up the table to the third spot with this win, having acquired three points so far in the championship. Although Nepal lost the match, the country remains on top of the table on a head-to-head basis. Nepal and Maldives are tied with six points. Bangladesh comes fourth with four points, with Sri Lanka remaining in the bottom of the table with one point. Sri Lanka has since been eliminated.
Maldives will go head-to-head with India on October 13. The ticket sales for this match will begin on Tuesday. If Maldives ties with India in this match, it will secure a spot in the finals.
