Bangladesh is off to a good start after beating Sri Lanka in its first game of the biggest football carnival of the South Asia region, the “Ooredoo SAFF Championship 2021”.

The team beat Sri Lanka 1 – 0 during the game held at the National Football Stadium on Friday evening.

Although neither team was able to score in the first half of the match, Bangladesh got plenty of opportunities to score, however, to no avail.

At the 39th minute, forward Jewel Rana was unable to make use of an opportunity to score. In the extra time of the first half, defender Yeasin Arafat paved an excellent opportunity for fellow defender Topu Barman to score, however, the opponent’s goal keeper and team captain Sujan Ferrari defended the goal.

Bangladesh scored its first goal in the 11th minute of the second half of the game, scored as a penalty by Topu. With this, Bangladesh has secured a good start to its SAFF Championship journey.

Oscar Bruzon, the coach of Bashundhara Kings is leading the Bangladeshi national squad in this championship. The Bangladesh Football Federation (BFF) relieved Jamie Day, former coach of the team temporarily.

The winning team is scheduled to face India next, on the evening of October 4.
