Nepal is leading the biggest football carnival in the South Asia region, the “Ooredoo SAFF Championship 2021” currently, after winning two of the games played so far.
During the match held at the national football stadium on Monday night, Nepal beat Sri Lanka 3 -2.
Both teams showed equally good performance into the beginning of the match, with Nepal having taken the lead 31 minutes in, with a score by forward, Suman Lama.
With stronger attacks into the second half of the match, Nepal extended their lead with a second score by forward Nawayug Shrestha.
Sri Lanka ditched the nil score with a goal by midfielder Marvin Hamilton in the 57th minute.
Nepal’s last score was by midfielder Ayush Ghalan four minutes before the game ended. The opponent scored its second goal during the extra time, with a penalty by Dillon Sanon De Silva.
The winning team has secured wins under their belt during both matches played so far, the first one being against Maldives on the first day of the championship. Nepal beat Maldives 1 – 0.
Nepal currently leads the table with six points, trailed closely behind by Bangladesh with four points. India remains third with one point. Maldives and Sri Lanka fall to the bottom of the table with zero points.
Monday evening’s match between India and Bangladesh ended in a draw.
