Upon the invitation of President Ibrahim Mohamed Solih, President of the 76th Session of the United Nations General Assembly (PGA), Abdulla Shahid is scheduled to visit the Maldives this week.

The President’s Office revealed that the PGA will be visiting the Maldives from October 6 – 9.

During the visit, the Maldivian leaders will engage in official discussions.

The invitation was extended to PGA Shahid during President Solih’s visit to the states to attend the 76th UNGA Session.

During the meeting at the UN Headquarters in New York City, President Solih invited the PGA to visit Maldives at an early date in his capacity as the UNGA president and wished Shahid success in achieving the five rays of hope that defines the PGA’s term.

Shahid thanked Solih for his confidence throughout the PGA campaign, and after he won the election.

President Ibrahim Mohamed Solih departed to New York, United States on Saturday 18 and was joined by First Lady Fazna Ahmed and a high-level delegation of government officials.

Maldives marks a turning point in history during the 76th UNGA session, after the election of Maldives Foreign Minister as the president of the session. Shahid won the election for the UNGA presidency in June, with an overwhelming majority.
