301,078 persons across the Maldives received both shots of the Covid-19 vaccination, by the end of Thursday.
According to the latest daily numbers publicized by Health Protection Agency (HPA), a total of 1773 doses were administered on Thursday, with 1366 of them being first doses, and 407 being second doses.
Out of the 1366 first doses, atolls hold the majority, with 981 shots administered, and 385 administered in the Greater Male' Area. As for the second doses, 266 were administered in the Greater Male' Area, and 141 in outlying atolls.
With this development, a total of 301,078 persons have completed both doses of Covid-19 vaccine across the island nations.
Further, with 381,745 having received the first dose, 80,667 persons currently await their second jabs.
There are currently three mobile teams across six vaccination centers and 176 centers spanning outlying atolls.
Since the supply of AstraZeneca vaccine will expire in November, authorities have set a deadline for the administration of first doses, prompting more residents across the Maldives to get their shots.
The vaccine administration deadline for first doses of AstraZeneca is September 1.
As the government aims to vaccinate 95 percent of the eligible population through the free vaccination drive, by the end of August, there will be restrictions for unvaccinated persons starting next month.
HPA has publicized a list of restrictions that unvaccinated persons will face, including a ban on domestic travel and disallowing tourists from checking in to guesthouses if they are unvaccinated. Furthermore, civil servants who have not been vaccinated yet will also be required to present negative PCR test results every 14 days from September 1.
The vaccination drive was launched by the incumbent administration of President Ibrahim Mohamed Solih on February 1.
While authorities recently launched a vaccination drive for children aged 12 to 17, over 30,000 were administered the first shot of the approved Pfizer vaccine for the age group in the first 10 days. This campaign is being conducted together with the education ministry, with awareness programmes held for parents as their consent is required for child's vaccination.
