Adhaalath Party will remain as part of the ruling coalition so long as it follows Islamic values, says party President and Home Minister Imran Abdulla.

Sheikh Imran made the statement while speaking at a ceremony to celebrate Adhaalath's 16 the anniversary on Wednesday night.

Noting that Adhaalath was the third political party to be formed in the Maldives 16 years ago, Imran said that the party will continue to uphold Islamic values and ensuring that the foundation the country was built on is not destroyed.

He added that the party has now become an important governing partner, stressing that this is because Adhaalath was able to follow its own strategical policies since establishment in 2005.

While the Adhaalath Party is currently a part of the ruling coalition, the party leader vowed to remain in the coalition as long as it does not go against the principles of Islam. He noted that Adhaalath Party will not hesitate to break ties with the coalition, if it is unable to uphold Islamic ideals.

The home minister further noted the various progress made by the party in the past 16 years, including various appointments as well as coming up with a strategic action plan.

He added that the Adhaalath stands as an example to other political parties with the work they have done.

Minister Imran concluded by stating that the Adhaalath Party’s doors are always open for new members, especially the youth and stated that educated young people currently remain members of the party as well.

Established on 18 August 2005, Adhaalath Party signed a coalition agreement with main ruling Maldivian Democratic Party (MDP), Jumhooree Party and Maldives Reform Movement (MRM, which was officially registered in November 2019) ahead of the 2018 presidential elections, in 2017.
