The President’s Office has opened applications for the position of Chief Statistician.
The deadline to appoint the Chief Statistician as decreed by the Maldives Statistics Act expires on the 18th August 2021 and applications will be accepted by the President’s Office on the 10th and 11th of August from 10am to 11pm. A Chief Statistician is being appointed to run the newly created the Maldives Bureau of Statistics under the Maldives Statistics Bill which was gratified by President Ibrahim Mohamed Solih. This bill was created to establish policies on statistics, put together official statistics, evaluate them and utilize them.
The main objective of this law is to develop the statistics field of the Maldives, to collect important statistics related to the nation’s economy, society and environment and publicize these statistics in order to gain the trust of citizens.
When this law begins to be implemented, the Maldives Bureau of Statistics will be working under the government in relation to all matters of statistics. Furthermore, all resources provided to the former National Bureau pf Statistics will be transferred to the Maldives Bureau of Statistics.
Moreover, according to the new law, a statistical council of 10 members will be appointed to help make important decisions.
