Maziya Sports and Recreation Club has departed to Saudi Arabia to train for the group stage matches in AFC Cup 2021.
The opportunity to conduct a training camp in the Saudi Kingdom was facilitated for the team by Football Association of Maldives (FAM).
Maziya members departed from Maldives on Saturday and is scheduled to return on August 14.
Currently comprising Group D of the AFC Cup group stage alongside Maziya are India's ATK Mohun Bagan FC and Bangladesh's Bashundhara Kings.
The club kicked off training sessions in the Maldives capital on July 10.
Maziya has left to camp in the Saudi Kingdom at a time the Asian Football Confederation (AFC) has announced its decision to host the AFC Cup 2021 Playoffs and Group Stage - South matches in Maldives. According to this decision, the playoff match between Club Eagles and Bengaluru FC from India will be held on August 15. Group stage matches will proceed afterwards, on August 18, 21 and 24.
Maziya will go head-to-head against Bashundhara Kings in its first match, on August 18. The club’s second match will be against Mohun Bagan on August 21 followed by a match against the winner of the playoffs between Eagles and Bengaluru, on August 24.
While the club is training for the AFC Cup, Super United Sports (SUS) goalie during the last season, Uzbekistan’s Mirzokhid Mamatkhonov recently joined Maziya.
