All government offices in the Greater Malé Region will remain closed until July 3.
The offices have been closed as a precautionary measure to curb the spread of Covid-19 since May 5, following the confirmation of a fourth coronavirus wave in the island nation.
While the last extension was to expire on Tuesday, all government officers offices in the Greater Malé Region comprising of Malé, Hulhumalé, Villimalé, Thilafushi and Gulhifalhu will remain closed until July 3 now.
State employees are urged to continue working from home during this period to ensure services are provided without interruption with the minimum number of required employees to attend their respective offices.
Only a minister or a head of respective offices or institutions may authorize exemptions, and most services are being provided online,
In Tuesday’s directive to extend office closure, President Ibrahim Mohamed Solih reiterated the importance of adhering to Health Protection Agency (HPA) instructions to control the spread of the Covid-19.
Regardless of the decision to close government offices, the period has not been declared government holidays.
