Authorities have yet to make a decision on further relaxing the restrictions imposed to curb the spread of Covid-19.

An official from the Health Emergency Operations Centre (HEOC) said that they continue to closely monitor the situation since the restrictions were imposed, and that eases are announced after discussions following improvement in situation.

Authorities strengthened Covid-19 safety measures across the country in mid-May following the confirmation of a fourth wave. These measures have been relaxed twice now, as new cases started to decrease especially in Covid-19 epicenter capital Male’ City, with the latest eases announced on June 22.

Highlighting this, the HEOC official told RaajjeMV that these eases are to remain until the end of the month and that this will be reviewed a week after announcement. Hence, the official said that will only begin discussions on further relaxing these restrictions, on Monday.

As for now, there is still a curfew in capital Male’ City from 6pm to 4am, with residents requiring permits to be out even during non-curfew hours except from 6am to 8am when individual exercises are allowed.

Further, mosques, salons and gyms have been given the go ahead to reopen under special guidelines.

Maldives remains in a state of public health emergency since 12 March 2020 which was last extended to expire on 3 July.
