Maldives has reported the 71st Covid-19 fatality.
The Health Emergency Operations Center revealed that deceased is an 80-year-old man who was admitted at Hulhumalé Medical Facility.
The man died at around 11:25pm on Monday.
This is the fourth death linked to Covid-19 reported in the Maldives over the past few days.
The coronavirus pandemic has claimed 23 lives in the Maldives thus far this ongoing year.
With an alarming spike in case count over the past few months, hospitalizations had also increased in comparison to what was observed during the second Covid-19 wave in 2020. HPA earlier revealed that hospital admissions are currently lower than they were in mid-February, however, they were still higher in comparison to the hospital admissions recorded at the beginning of the ongoing year during March. Currently there are 68 Covid-19 patients hospitalized for treatment.
Maldives active Covid-19 tally is currently at 2,735 with 26,505 infections having been confirmed nationwide since the pandemic surfaced in the island nation during March 2020.
