The Ministry of Economic Development has announced that Ramazan allowances will be issued to workers in the Maldives on Thursday, 8 April 2021.

In an announcement signed by the Minister of Finance Ibrahim Ameer, the Finance Ministry noted that all Muslim workers in the Maldives will be eligible for MVR 3,000 as Ramazan allowances for the ongoing year under the Employment Act (Law No.: 2/2008). The Finance Ministry highlighted that those employed at more than one organization will be issued the Ramazan allowance from their primary place of employment.

The Ministry of Finance also revealed that those workers who receive the Ramazan allowance but leave their job before one third of Ramazan passes, will be required to return the allowance to their employer, and will only be issued the allowance for the number of days of work they attended prior to the resignation. Those employees set to resign from their workplace during Ramazan will also be issued the allowance based on the number of days of work they attend.

The Ministry of Finance, beginning 1 April, has requested all employers in the Maldives to submit the details of Ramazan allowances to be issued to workers.
