Former President Abdulla Yaameen Abdul Gayyoom has requested to be transferred home while serving a five-year prison sentence following being convicted of money laundering in November 2019.
Raajje MV has learned that ex-president Yaameen was the one to issue the request for discussions, through a letter addressed to the Ministry of Home Affairs. The Home Ministry has since confirmed that they have received a letter from Yaameen requesting that he be transferred home while serving his sentence.
The Ministry of Home Affairs revealed that while a letter had been received, a decision had not yet been made about having former president Yaameen return home.
The President's Office has also confirmed that Yaameen had sent a letter requesting discussions on a potential transfer to his home while serving his prison sentence, and said that the Solih administration has yet to make a decision on the matter.
