A new member has been appointed to the Elections Commission of the Maldives.
Dr. Mohamed Zahir was appointed as the new member of the commission on Sunday and President Ibrahim Mohamed Solih presented the new appointee with his letter of appointment at a ceremony held at the President’s Office.
Zahir’s oath of office was administer by the Chief Justice of the High Court, Hathif Hilmee.
The new appointee has a Masters in Business Administration from the Open University in Malaysia as well as a PhD from the National Institute of Development Administration (NIDA), Bangkok, Thailand.
Prior to his appointment to the Elections Commission, Zahir served as an Assistant Professor at the Maldives National University (MNU).
Zahir, who also served as a Director of the Elections Commission, was approved by the People’s Majlis for EC membership last week.
