Council Elections: EC now accepting complaints to voters registry
The deadline to submit complaints to the voters registry of the Local Council and Women's Development Committee Elections has been set at 20 February
Additional deadline approaching on 11 February as the final date for candidates to withdraw their names from ballots prior to the elections

The voters registry for the Local Council and Women's Development Committee (WDC) Elections Scheduled for 10 April has been made public, with the Elections Commission (EC) announcing a deadline until 20 February to submit complaints to the voters list.

EC has announced that the voters registry will be available to download from the commission's website, in addition to having being posted on the national gazette. The voters list for the upcoming Local Council and WDC elections will also be available from all the island council secretariats across the Maldives, and from regional offices and city councils as well.

EC has further revealed that citizens can now check details of their registration by sending a text message to 1414 as follows; (VR [space] National ID Card Number)

Complaints will be accepted for the voters registry every working day between 9 and 20 February, between 8:30am and 1pm,with complaints to be received between 3pm and 5pm on Friday. On government holidays in the interim, the Elections Commission will be accepting complaints to the voters registry between 9am and 1pm.

The Elections Commission will accept complaints to the voters registry as forms submitted to the commission, which can be downloaded from the EC website, in addition to being available from the secretariats of island councils across the country. Complaints forms must be emailed to the official address of the Elections Commission at ([email protected]), and will be accepted by island and city council administrations from across the Maldives with the exception of the Male' area.

In addition to this, the final deadline for candidates contesting in the Local Council and WDC elections to withdraw their name from ballots is set at 2PM on Thursday. The EC has previously stated that candidates will not be able to withdraw their names from ballots following the close of the deadline.

The opportunity to withdraw from the LCE and Women’s Development Committee Elections slated for 2020 was granted by the Elections Commission (EC) on June 23 last year, under the Local Council Elections Act.
