The permanent lists of those who are eligible for and will be receiving units from the "Hiyaa" public housing scheme project were made public on Tuesday.

The Committee Investigating Public Housing Schemes has publicised the final lists of eligible applicants for the 6,720 apartments under the housing scheme.

The lists were published in the government gazette, and contains names of those who will be receiving "Hiyaa" flats under different categories.

The permanent list of those receiving social housing units under the "Hiyaa" project had been finalized after a period was issued through which members of the public could submit complaints to the temporary list of recipients made public earlier. On 30 December last year, The Committee Investigating Public Housing Schemes established by the government had extended the deadline to submit complaints to how points had been allocated to those who had applied for flats based on their living situation. The extended deadline had come to an end of January 5.

The permanent list of those receiving flats under the "Hiyaa" social housing scheme was published in segments, each dedicated to a separate category. The H1 list is dedicated to doctors and nurses, H5 list to teachers, H6 list to single parents, H7 list for married couples between 18 and 40, the H8 list for natives of Male', the H9 list for those registered to the Male' Municipality Register, H10 for those with disabilities and a special list for civil service employees who had applied for social housing under the "Hiyaa" project.

The lists gazetted detail 6,720 parties who are eligible for receiving flats under the "Hiyaa" programme, in addition to lists detailing those who are ineligible and those who had their applications disqualified for various reasons, all of which have now been made public.

In addition to this, guidelines set forth by Ministry of National Planning, Housing and Infrastructure go on to note that married individuals will be entitled to a single unit, although both spouses qualify for housing, under their respective category.

The housing committee has also announced that those who were included in the temporary list published earlier for the "Hiyaa" flats, who had since received and signed agreements for other flats, rowhouses or land under additional social housing schemes conducted by the government, had been omitted when preparing a permanent list of recipients for the "Hiyaa" housing units.

Further, the housing committee notes that only those applicants who receive 50 percent or more from points allocated would be eligible to receive flats from the "Hiyaa" social housing project. Due to this, the committee notes that some categories have fewer recipients than the number of flats that have been allocated. The cabinet has since decided that those additional flats will be allocated under the H8 category for those registered to the Male' Municipality Register in order top prioritize social housing from Hulhumale' for those living in the Male' area.
