The total Covid-19 expenditure related to the health and social sectors, has reached MVR 1,373.4 million.

According to latest statistics publicized by the Ministry of Finance, the total expenditure towards health and social efforts reached MVR 1.37 billion by December 24, which is a 0.8 percent increase from the week before, whereas the total disbursements made under the Covid-19 Economic Response scheme sat at MVR 1,464.9 million by then. This, the ministry said, is a 4.7 percent increase from the week prior.

During the review period, the Ministry of Health spent the highest amount, at MVR 8.1 million, a majority of which covered supplies and requisites for service provision at MVR 112.8 million, capital equipment at MVR 81.2 million and MVR 40.1 million for operational services.

While other agencies made minor increments to their expenses, the Maldives Police Service (MPS) spent MVR 6.9 million as allowances to employees. The institution has spent a total of MVR 31.3 million thus far, out of which MVR 27.4 million has been dedicated to employee wages.

The National Disaster Management Authority (NDMA) has registered a total of MVR 866.4 million since response efforts began, out of which 362.8 million was for supplies and requisites for service provision, 112.5 million for capital equipment, the same amount for operational services as well as 63.8 million for supplies and requisites.

Overall, Indhira Gandhi Memorial Hospital (IGMH) spent MVR 88 million by December 24, out of which 72.6 million was to acquire supplies and requisites for service provision, 4.3 million for capital equipment, 4.9 million for supplies and requisites as well as 5.6 million for operational services. IGMH also contributed MVR 600,000 for repairs and maintenance and 4.3 million for capital equipment.

Further, the Maldives National Defense Force (MNDF) spent a total of MVR 42.6 million, out of which MVR 24 million was for allowances to employees, 15.4 million for supplies and requisites, 2.6 million for repairs and maintenance, 500,000 for capital equipment.

MVR 10.3 million out of the MVR 28.8 million covered by the Ministry of Tourism from the ministry’s Tourism Activities Implementation Fund, was for operational services. MVR 7.4 million was also spent on supplies and requisites to provide services and three million for travel-related expenditure.

During the review period the National Social Protection Agency contributed MVR 8.6 million for grants contributions and subsidies.
