Following the tragic demise of Ismail Firaq, a long-serving state employee, President Ibrahim Mohamed Solih has extended condolences.
In a message on Thursday, the president conveyed deepest condolences to the family of the deceased, who is survived by his wife, the president’s sibling, Fathmath Mohamed Solih and two children.
Firaq passed away aged 59, while receiving treatment for a prolonged illness at ADK Hospital.
He had served for over 19 years, in several government positions including high-ranking positions, having begun his service at the Ministry of Atoll Administration as a Secretary and then served as an Assistant Project Officer and the Programme Analyst.
Firaq also served as the Assistant Director and at the Ministry of Tourism as well as the Deputy Director of Planning and Development.
Other positions filled by the deceased during his time include the Director at the Ministry of Environment, Energy and Water and as the Director-General and Executive Director at the Ministry of Planning and National Development.
Funeral prayers for the late Ismail Firaq were held at Masjid Al-Furqan following Dhuhr prayers on Thursday.
Firaq’s funeral was attended by the President, Vice President Faisal Naseem and senior government officials.
