Police have made a number of arrests across Maldives, in separate drug operations this week.
Two of the arrested are natives of Muli island in Meemu atoll and Makunudhoo island in Haa Dhaal atoll, respectively.
The Muli native, a 26-year-old, was arrested after officers patrolling the island searched the individual due to suspicious behavior.
As such, the individual was believed to have been intoxicated when searched around 12:15am on Thursday and officers confiscated an empty film cannister stuffed with suspected narcotics.
The case is currently under investigation by the Muli Police Station.
Further, the 50-year-old Makunudhoo native was arrested on Wednesday, after being tipped off that he was involved in a drug smuggling attempt.
Upon searching the man, officers found 14 rubber packets filled with suspected narcotics, on him.
Police revealed that their station in Makunudhoo island is currently investigating the case.
Another arrest was made in the capital, Malé City in connection to an operation conducted this week. Arrested is a 27-year-old expatriate and officers confiscated 12 bottles filled with suspected alcohol inside a taxi at around 9pm on Wednesday.
During a separate operation, officers raided a house in Henveiru-ward of the capital under a court order where they confiscated 13 bottles of suspected alcohol and 173 cans of beer. No arrests were made in connection to the case.
Both cases are under further investigation by the police Drug Enforcement Department.
