With 34 new cases of the global Covid-19 infection reported in the Maldives on Thursday, the country’s coronavirus tally has risen to 13,308.

The new cases were confirmed out of the 2,058 samples tested from 6pm Wednesday, to 6pm Thursday, revealed the Health Protection Agency (HPA).

Daily statistics released by the public health authority reveal that most of the new cases, 15, were confirmed from the greater Malé region, whereas nine were reported from residential islands, eight from operational resorts and two from liveaboard vessels.

Further, with an additional 30 recoveries reported by sundown on Thursday, the country has confirmed a total of 12,621 Covid-19 recoveries thus far.

Since the pandemic surfaced from a local resort on March 7, the virus has claimed a total of 47 lives in the island nation.

HPA went on to reveal that 66 patients out of the 633 active coronavirus cases, are hospitalized for treatment, this is two less than the previous day.

Public health authorities have collected 263,107 samples for Covid-19 testing thus far.

Over the course of the past week, the highest daily rise was reported on December 6, where 39 new infections were confirmed. The lowest daily increase in coronavirus cases was reported the next day, at just 15 cases.
