Maldives confirms lowest daily rise in Covid-19 cases thus far in December

Maldives reported the lowest rise in daily Covid-19 cases, since the beginning of December, on Saturday.

The Health Protection Agency (HPA)’s nightly statistics revealed that 16 new infections were confirmed out of the 2,012 samples tested from 6pm Friday to 6pm Saturday.

The new cases include nine from the greater Malé region, five from inhabited islands and two from operational resorts.

With this development, the country’s total Covid-19 case count has been pushed to 13,159.

In addition, with 65 additional recoveries reported by sundown on Saturday, the country’s recovery rate has risen to 93.20 percent with 12,264 patients having recovered since the pandemic surfaced in the island nation on March 7.

Statistics go on to reveal that 79 Covid-19 patients are currently hospitalized for treatment, this is just one patient more than the previous day.

Out of the 841 active coronavirus cases, 658 active cases are in the greater Malé region, 31 in outlying atolls, 49 in operational resorts, three cases in tourist establishments, 99 active cases in islands under development as well as one industrial island.

The week started off with 47 cases of the virus being confirmed on Sunday, the number dropped to 17 the next day and rose to 38 on December 1. Saturday's cases were the lowest daily rise reported since the month began.
