Police is to question opposition Peoples National Congress (PNC)’s deputy, Ibrahim Shujau, over a protest held in the capital earlier this month.
He has been summoned to the police, for 2:30pm on Monday.
The former Baarah constituency MP was taken into police custody during the protest, but released shortly after.
While the opposition’s protest was held against the Health Protection Agency (HPA)’s Covid-19 guidelines, they had attempted to get approval to hold the gathering in the Carnival area. However, the request was rejected due to the Covid-19 situation, and advised to be held virtually.
Following HPA’s recommendation, Shujau criticized the agency and questioned if they should keep conducting virtual protests for the entirety of the current administration.
Shujau was fined for breaching Covid-19 safety rules back in August as well, also at an opposition rally.
He was fined MVR 1,000 for violating HPA’s guidelines.
