Providing a peaceful and tranquil environment for Malé City residents, is a key priority of the incumbent administration, says President Ibrahim Mohamed Solih.

The president made this remark while addressing attendees of the ceremony to open Lonuziyaarai Bageecha in the capital city, on Wednesday.

As such, he noted that since coming into power, the government has been focused on securing a peaceful and welcoming environment for the resident of in the capital city.

Highlighting that Lonuziyaarai Bageecha mirrors this priority, Solih shed light on the benefits of integrating open, green spaces into urban living especially in congested cities.

In light of the situation surrounding the ongoing Covid-19 pandemic, the president also urged the public to adhere to safety guidelines from relevant authorities and to take all necessary precautions against the infection while visiting public spaces.

In addition, the president noted the importance of spending time outdoors especially in the relaxing environment the park offers, at a time people are mentally unwell due to the pandemic.

Highlighting that there is more to do be done in order to achieve peaceful urban living for the city residents, the president stated that the government has several plans to improve the city, with the inclusion of housing for Malé City residents, which is a key priority for the upcoming year.

Lonuziyaarai Bageecha was officially opened to the public, in commemoration of Maldives Republic Day, by former Housing Minister Umar Zahir who is also a holder of the Order of the Distinguished Rule of Izzuddin.

The opening ceremony was joined by the First Couple, Ibrahim Mohamed Solih and Fazna Ahmed, alongside former president and Parliament Speaker Mohamed Nasheed, Vice President Faisal Naseem as well as distinguished members of the Cabinet of Ministers.
