A total of 1,148 air traffic movements were recorded at the Velana International Airport (VIA) during October.

Maldives Airports Company Limited (MACL) publicized statistics of air traffic movements and passenger traffic at VIA, from October 1 – 31.

MACL’S statistics show that 468 international scheduled aviation air traffic movements were recorded during October and that 172 international general aviation air traffic movements were also recorded.

During October, Maldives recorded 25,273 arrivals and 22,496 departures through international scheduled aviation as well as 247 arrivals and 332 departures through general aviation.

Total arrivals in the international aviation were recorded at 25,520, with departures at 22,828 and total air traffic movements at 640.

Looking into domestic statistics, MACL recorded 476 air traffic movements in scheduled aviation, 32 in general aviation and 508 in total.

Further, 6,408 arrivals and 6,277 departures were also reported in scheduled aviation as well as eight arrivals and seven departures in general aviation. The total is at 6,416 arrivals and 6,284 departures. 508 air traffic movements were also recorded.

In total, Maldives saw 31,936 arrivals and 29,112 departures within the past month, said MACL.

A little over three months since the government halted issuing on-arrival visas due to the ongoing Covid-19 pandemic, authorities reopened borders for international travel on July 15.
