Discussions have been held regarding avenues to further collaborate on bilateral and multilateral issues between Maldives and South Korea.
Maldives Minister of Foreign Affairs Abdulla Shahid and Minister for Foreign Affairs of South Korea, Kang Kyung-wha engaged in the discussions during a telephone conversation on Thursday.
The discussions touched down on the ongoing global Covid-19 pandemic and important bilateral and multilateral cooperation between the two countries.
As such, both ministers discussed ways through which the existing cooperation and friendship between Maldives and South Korea may be enhanced.
Minister Kang was briefed on the impacts the Covid-19 pandemic has created in the Maldives and the measures that have provoked it, in order to curb the spread of the infection.
FM Shahid highlighted the economic and financial impacts of the pandemic and shed light on the current precautionary measures and efforts underway to restarts activities to flourish the country’s economic growth once again.
Discussions further touched down on avenues to collaborate more closely on issues of mutual interest, especially in the multilateral sphere and within the United Nations.
Maldives and Korea share long-standing diplomatic relations since inception during November 1966.
